In-house training

Vestbris Simulator and Training Centre

Numerous mandatory training courses for seafarers are required to comply with regulations in the Oil and Gas industry; courses that are located in different locations, and even in different countries. In addition to mandatory training, Island Offshore has established an in-house training centre “Vestbris” to offer more individual training and to facilitate development of best practice using cutting edge simulator technology.

Our objective is not only to meet the mandatory training needs of Island Offshore seafarers, but challenge best practice and bring competitive edge to training and competence enhancement.

Being suitably trained is one of the key components of a worker’s competence. All seafarers must be adequately qualified and possess sufficient experience. Introducing simulator training allows officers and crane and gangway operators to gain valuable experience.

The simulators installed at Vestbris are developed by Offshore Simulator Center (OSC) in Ålesund featuring cutting edge simulator technology which includes a dome solution used for both AHC Crane operations and Walk to Work. In addition to the dome, two able-bodied seaman stations, an instructor station, as well as a bridge simulator are installed at our training facilities in Ulsteinvik. The bridge simulator allow our deck officers to interact in team training with both crane operation and walk to work operations. The bridge equipment installed is MT Bridgemate.

Simulations are effective at getting students to apply concepts that they have learned through lectures or reading.
